Will you keep drinking soft drinks?

Again after 3 years, pesticides level found in soft drinks was found way above allowable limits. Coca-cola is spending quite a huge amount on telling people how it is safe to keep drinking the soft drinks. They aired a ad. in which some pestiside experts talks about the pesticides levels. He says that the even the human milk has insecticides. Is this relevent to pesticides found in coca-cola? (which are being manufactured). Instead of spending money on such things, I wonder why not they spend money to reduce the insecticide levels? Does coca-cola think that Indians are guinea pigs? Or something like that? And how can they comment that human milk contains quite high level pesticides? Have they done some research? If yes, they must have spent quite a large amount of money in doing so; instead of reducing the level of insecticides in their products. And if its true, then what is Govt. of India doing? Is government sleeping? There are many NGO's in India which are working on such issues. Are they sleeping also? Well, I am just thinking. Not trying to come to any conclusion. The conclusion which I came to is I am going to stop drinking soft-drinks henceforth (though I drink not more than 1 300 ml bottle per month in a year).

So what are you going to do?

I agree...

.. that I will not drink any more soft drinks.

The part about human milk & pesticide sucks. These softdrink majors should get a life.

Bariya hei

Bariya hei

Why in the first place?

What I don't understand is why people drink it in the first place. I take something like a glass a year when there is no option(Yes there could be such situations) and I stick to carbonated part of it i.e. limca etc.

However for colas(and for limca as well for that matter), it is not a soothing experience at all. I am sure it is some form of psychological disorder to hurt yourself intentionally. This form of it seems to be socially acceptable.

Indian States bans Coke (coca-cola), Pepsi products

From: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14268284/

Sales of the two companies have been hit since the Center for Science and Environment said last week that its tests on 57 samples of soft drinks made by the two companies revealed they contained residues of pesticides 24 times higher than the Indian standards.

CSE said almost all soft drinks sold in India contain high levels of pesticides, but the focus was on Coca-Cola and PepsiCo because the two account for nearly 80 percent of India’s $2 billion-plus soft drink market.

Seshasayee of the Confederation of Indian Industry said the standards cited by CSE were part of a government “proposal” that has not yet been adopted.

Coca-Cola and PepsiCo officials in India continue to avoid speaking to journalists on the issue.

Kari Bjorhus, a U.S-based spokeswoman for Coca-Cola, said the company is “disappointed that the government (in Kerala) would make a decision like that based on inaccurate information.”

She added: “Our products are perfectly safe and there is no reason to take them away from consumers.”

This is not the first time Coca-Cola and PepsiCo have faced charges in India of excessive pesticides in their soft drinks.

Few questions which came in my mind:
- What is the current pesticide levels in Pepsi and Coca-cola?
- What are the safe limits set by:
   * Government of India
   * Government of USA (Where these companies are registered)
   * World Health Organisation
   * Pepsi
   * Coca-cola
- To which proposal Seshasayee of the Confederation of Indian Industry is refering to? What was the suituation 3 years back?
- Why are Indian officials of Pepsi and Coca-cola are silent?
- Why Kari Bjorhus, a U.S-based spokeswoman for Coca-Cola is speaking instead of Indian spokesperson?
- Will these companies (Pepsi and Coca-cola) export these drinks from India to USA?
- Will USA allow them to import these drinks from India?

Came across this interesting link:

I do not have any idea how much truth is there in the link, but worth looking at it once :)

pesticides? lets get real guys

Indian Council of Medical Research says half of Indian food commodities produced have pesticides. But did you know - 1 apple has more pesticide than you would get by drinking a cola every week for next 75 years!

Sure, Colas have pesticides. But so does Breast milk, fruits, veggies, bread & ketchup. Not drinking Colas will help. Sure ! If you insist

I was wondering from where

I was wondering from where did you got the data regarding Indian Council of Medial Research. Can you please share the URL/source/document from where you got the information? Regarding apple has pesticide. I tend to disagree with your thinking over here. India exports apple to other countries which include US. And I don't think that figures which are with you are correct, unless you point us to appropriate information.

Great!!! Nice to hear that you agree that Colas and/or Pepsis contain pestisides, above allowable safe limit which can be hazardous to humans. Again I have a doubts regarding what you are saying about pesticides in breast milk. I really wonder what is the method of arriving to this conclusion. As far as I know, Indian society is quite conservative regarding such things. Even with sperm donation. So from where did the concern agengy which arrived to this conclusion got enough number of samples? Again, will definitely appriciate if you can point to appropriate infomation.

BTW, it would have been nice if you could disclose your name (at least) so I/we take you more seriously. Though I don't mind you keeping yourself annonymous, if you insist. :)
